DOWNTOWN Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Festival, held this year April 19–May 1, has quickly grown into a showcase for moviemakers from around the world.
MANHATTANITES The suspense drama The Interpreter kicked off this year’s festival, and star Nicole Kidman was the epitome of espionage chic on the red carpet in a tailored black Lanvin trench. Even the notoriously press shy Sean Penn, who starred opposite Kidman, smiled for the paparazzi. Other stars included Naomi Watts, Robin Wright Penn, Eric McCormack, Gabrielle Union, Sarah Chalke and Sheryl Crow, who functioned as a pseudo film critic.“ I think what’s involved is being a huge fan of movies but also having a love for New York,” said Crow who has lived on and off in the city for the past eight years. If that doesn’t put you in a New York state of mind, nothing will.
