IT'S BLACK AND WHITE Oprah Winfrey spent the weekend of May 13–15 honoring 25 of her personal heroes with three days of festivities, kicking off with a luncheon at the talk-show queen's home in Montecito, Calif., and culminating with a gospel Sunday brunch. The highlight? Saturday night's Legends Ball at the Bacara Resort & Spa in Santa Barbara.
THE LEGENDS Attended by Halle Berry, Usher, Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons, Janet Jackson, Missy Elliott, Ashanti, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, among others, Winfrey's white-tie gala paid tribute to her heroines, including Maya Angelou, Tina Turner and Gladys Knight, for their contributions in the arts, entertainment and civil rights.
TO SAY THANKS Winfrey's guests dined and mingled among more than 20,000 white peonies while being serenaded by a 26-piece classical orchestra. And for the frosting on the cake, Winfrey iced her idols' lobes with diamond earrings.
