If your pockets were heavy enough to hold more than $40,000, you could have taken home a gilded vending machine that dispenses mini bottles of Moët & Chandon at the click of a button. Fabulous, right? One lucky bidder wrapped up that prize Wednesday night at the 2017 amfAR New York Gala.

At the FIJI Water-hosted affair inside Cipriani Wall Street, stars including Scarlett Johansson, Zoë Kravitz, and Diane Kruger put on the Ritz. amfAR honoree Johansson set the tone of the night in a custom Atelier Versace silk black tuxedo with white lapels, a sleek white mini clutch, and pumps.

Her elegantly tailored look provided a sharp contrast to Kravitz, who took the plunge in a sheer beaded gown with a top covered in Swarovski crystals. Brad Goreski, one of the evening's many headline-making guests, also fell in love with another member of the Versace squad. "Diane Kruger in Versace!" he told InStyle, referring the actress's beaded sheer minidress. "I think she's always one of the best and tonight's no exception."

The ladies' outfit choices were especially appropriate since Donatella Versace herself was also an honoree. And the designer did what Donatella does best and wowed on the carpet next to friend and presenter Naomi Campbell. Everywhere you turned, Scarlett and Donatella were the main topics of conversation.

"It's just been such an honor every time I get to walk her shows," Victoria's Secret beauty Josephine Skriver told us of Donatella. "She's the kind of person you would tell about your summer break and the next season she'll remember it and be like, 'Oh, by the way, how is it?' There are not a lot pf people who actually take the time to really remember."

Lena Dunham, unfortunately, was not able to fulfill her hosting duties due to illness, but her mother, Laurie Simmons, and Girls co-star Zosia Mamet kept the crowd smiling, as did last-minute host Iman. Brian Newman pumped up the jazz between dinner courses and the auction and Ellie Goulding lit up stage by singing hits like "Love Me Like You Do."

And though there were many touching moments, the award for most tear-jerking goes to Johansson. Mark Ruffalo introduced her to the stage, calling her "smart, funny, kind, socially conscious, beautiful, and generous. "Scarlett is driven by the simple fact and firm conviction that she should do whatever she can to help those who are less fortunate than she is," he told the crowd.

Moments later, she took to the mic and delivered an emotional story about Anthony (Tony) Kennedy, a close friend of her mother who died of AIDS complications in 1993. She dedicated the award to him and others who have been affected by the disease. "I'd like to acknowledge the more than 37 million people around the world today that are still living and struggling with HIV/AIDS. And to dedicate this award to all those that have lost their lives and the lives of their loved ones to this disease."
