Memorial Day Weekend is over and summer is upon us, which means it's time once again to care about how we look in a swimsuit, and/or a high-waisted shorts and slinky tank combo, even when we low-key don't care at all.

I'm the type of person who's fairly health-conscious and physically active all year long, without being obsessive about diet, burpees, waist size, etc. I'm also much more concerned with feeling healthfully satisfied after a meal than making drastic cuts in my diet for fad's sake.

My food philosophies are seemingly in-line with the mission statement of Dirty Lemon, a “detox” for those who hate detoxing, which is why I spent the better part of May giving both their classic daily Raw Detox and their new Sink+Hair tonic a try.

Dirty Lemon's Raw Detox is made with reverse osmosis filter water, organic dandelion root, organic ginger root, non-GMO lemons (squeezed on-site just before bottling), and pharmaceutical-grade activated charcoal from sustainably harvested coconut shells. While it's not yet FDA-approved, it is vegan, gluten-free, raw, and made without added sugars. One order of Raw Detox includes six bottles (a seventh beverage-free rest day is also observed as part of the detox).

My favorite things about my week on the Raw Detox included its taste — mild and refreshing, with just the right amount of lemon — and the fact that I did feel fairly detoxed around day five. I ate and exercised as I normally would and had the drink right before bed. I woke up every morning feeling a little better than I did the night before, and felt genuinely refreshed by the end of the week, so, for me, I'd say it worked.

The cons of the non-cleanse cleanse include it being so effective that it might render prescription drugs and other supplements ineffective, so if you take any medications before bedtime (like me), you have to rearrange your schedule in a way as to not take your meds and the detox within five hours of each other, while still managing to drink the detox on a (recommended) full stomach. This was definitely the hardest part of both weeks with Dirty Lemon for me. If you're someone who takes medication nightly and you want to be sure your pills are properly absorbed, this is probably not the detox for you.

My second week with Dirty Lemon, on their new Skin+Hair tonic, was even better than the first. Not only did I feel refreshed and energized each morning, my skin also looked better than it usually did, and looked more even-toned and smooth than usual after the end of day seven. Despite the hassle of scheduling my nighttime medication around the detox, the Skin+Hair tonic made such a noticeable impact on my complexion that I will probably do it again (my only deterrent being the plastic bottles, as mentioned above).

If you're trying to decide between the two products, I recommend going with the Skin+Hair tonic, as you're more likely to feel and see the results.

Like the Raw Detox, the Skin+Hair tonic is made with cold-pressed lemon juice, but instead of activated charcoal it features marine collagen (for its anti-wrinkle properties and ability to increase skin elasticity), horsetail (a natural source of silica), red clover (a vegetable source of collagen), and cayenne. While the cayenne's anti-inflammatory properties can't be denied, it does make this beverage much harder to swallow than the Raw Detox.

I teared up a few times on day five and six while trying to finish off each bottle, but, hey, it was a small price to pay for a glowing complexion.
